Product Description
APARTMENT BLOCK TENANTS SEEK THE AID OF ALIEN MECHANICAL LIFE-FORMS TO SAVE THEIR BUILDING FROM DEMOLITION.
Amazon.com
Quite possibly the nadir of Steven Spielberg's career as a producer, this piece of sentimental junk from 1987 concerns five little spacecraft which arrive on Earth just in time to help out some New Yorkers getting kicked out of a tenement. The script's goo just sticks to the viewer, and the cast looks silly by trying not to be silly. You get the feeling that Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment was pretty much throwing stuff at the wall to see what would hang there, and they came up with this ridiculous thing. --Tom Keogh

Science fiction aids humans

*Batteries Not Included A very good movie for the whole family. I also enjoyed the science fiction element introduced into the movie. It has just the right mix of comedy with seriousness to make the movie enjoyable to everyone. I enjoy movies with a positive motive which highlights a mixture of old people with young people. The janitor has more of a childish attitude toward life which helps to make the movie help involve all ages of the audience. It centers around an elderly couple whose apartmenthouse is in the middle of an area being demolished for the erection of a new skyscraper. Small spaceships arrive to help rebuild the apartment house after it is destroyed by fire.

I was looking for movies for my 7 year old because i shelter him. I wanted him to be exposed to some PG movies. This movie wasn't even on for 15-20 mins before we shut it off. I dont know, it was weird and boring and made no sense to me. My 7 year old was kind of freaked out, but it might have not been justified, i dont' know. I will try watching this again and if i change my mind i will repost. Thought it would be a great watch because of the reviews, but it wasn't...at all, for us.

My children enjoyed this film growing up and I thought it would be enjoyed by my grand children. It was a tremendous hit and watched three times the first day. Their ages are three and six. Caution, there are a few curse words but were overlooked by the kids. The story was understood, even by the three year old. The music caused them to get up and dance to some '40's tunes that they might never be exposed to. The older cast and the delight of the robots kept them mesmerized and introduced them to a great film that wasn't Pixar.

Every DVD library should have this. And if your kids are grown, get it to keep the grandkids quiet when they visit.
Very original and cute movie. The plight of the little people struggling against "the man". With the help of these little mechanical aliens, the good guys win. Very entertaining. Not cheesy like Short Circuit.
