This movie brings me back so many good memories, I'm psyched to finally own it. I remember watching it so over and over. This and the Creepshow movies used to be the favorite shut the drapes get some popcorn and get scared movies of my childhood.

Being objective, it is quite mediocre as a whole the acting is up there with today's "scary movies" and the stories are not the most original you will see, but man! The memories!

It has four stories:

The Old Dark House

(From wikipedia) A couple is on its way home when the car breaks down on a nightly scenic route. They seek shelter in a seemingly empty home with a murderous past. It turns into an evening neither of them will forget.

- This one is one of my favorites, I still recall the climax of this story to this very day and get chills!

A Night on the Town

(From wikipedia) Four high school girls go downtown one night to have some fun. They can't get into a club and look for entertainment elsewhere. They end up at a run-down gas station. There, the girls cross paths with a perverted gas attendant and his ferocious dogs. This story features Tracy Wells, best known as the daughter on the sitcom Mr. Belvedere.

- This one is my least favorite from the movie, it's kind of like Cujo meets Sex and the City? Don't really watch SATC at all but that's what I imagine the combination would be like.

All Night Messenger

(From wikipedia) Marg Helgenberger plays Alex, an employee at a telephone messaging service. Due to a broken leg, she returns from a ski trip early and takes a late night shift. A female client complains of a man who's been stalking her and leaving messages. Alex tries to help but only ends up becoming a player herself in a cat and mouse game.

- A classic "the call is coming from inside the house" story. I love it!

The Main Story/Ending

--- Don't spoil it... (yeah, it's not that good, but still, it was cool to see it end like that way back then).

Tell Me A Story...

A college professor teaches a class entitled, "The Psychology Of Fear", using unconventional and controversial methods to get his message across (fear can only be understood through experiencing it). After being reprimanded, the prof decides to invite any brave students back to his home for further study. A small group shows up, and the storytelling begins. STORY #1- A young couple venture into an old, abandoned house after getting two flat tires. Of course, the place has an eeevil and mysterious history, culminating in shock and death! STORY #2- Four teen girls find themselves in the "bad part of town" while looking for a swingin' night spot. This leads to an evening of terror when they are confronted by a knife-wielding madman and his attack dogs! STORY #3- A late-night answering service operator (Marg Helgenberger from SPECIES 1 and 2, MR. BROOKS, tv's CSI) is caught up in a homicidal maniac's deadly night of revenge. AFTER MIDNIGHT is an exceptional horror anthology w/ a very good wrap-around story to anchor its three suspenseful yarns. Highly recommended...

Clever premise but boring execution

"After Midnight" got so many great reviews I decided to buy a copy thinking it would be like Campfire Tales' Trilogy of Terror or even Tales From the Crypt. It was released in 1989 so I was looking forward to some 80's flavor.
The premise had promise and the main story was clever but the three stories told in the midst of the main story were somewhat boring and about as scary as a white sheet thrown over someones head with the eyes cut out.Marg Helgenberger's performance and a performance by 80's teen icon Judie Aronson are the highlights of the lot. .
It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a Tales From the Crypt clone or something more serious.
Not bad if you haven't many other choices but I would never watch it twice~!

This would be a great movie for teenagers to watch on a Saturday night.

It's based on an interesting idea which is what is fear.

It's funny because this guy is supposed to be a college professor but his teaching methods are unorthadox to say the least. Kids might actually believe that a teacher could do something like that.

This is one of those movies I had seen many years ago and then one day I started thinking about it and miraculously I was able to find it without knowing the title. I thought the star was Christoper Reeve so I searched on him but somehow found it even though it's someone else.

At first when I purchased this DVD, I thought it was just your typical B flick horror movie, but it was like another Trilogy of Terror movie. Not just one main story line, but a few storys within the story. I personally enjoyed it. I originally bought it because I'm a big CSI fan, & wanted to see a Marg Helgenberger film. I was a little disappointed when I found that she didn't have as big a role as I thought she would. But overall, I enjoyed it.
